Remove Metadata from Photos
Strip EXIF, GPS, XMP, IPTC and C2PA from your photos — 100% in your browser, nothing is ever uploaded.
Supports drag & drop, file picker, and image URLs — most tools only allow file uploads.
What Is Photo Metadata?
Every photo carries hidden data you can't see: EXIF records your camera make, model, lens, exposure settings, and timestamps. GPS coordinates pinpoint exactly where the photo was taken — often within a few meters. XMP stores your editing history in Photoshop or Lightroom. IPTC holds captions, keywords, and copyright. C2PA Content Credentials reveal which AI tool generated the image.
This data travels with the file every time you email it, upload it, or post it online.
Why Remove Metadata?
| Risk | What Could Happen |
|---|---|
| Location tracking | A photo taken at home reveals your home address to anyone who downloads it |
| Stalking & harassment | GPS coordinates plus timestamps let bad actors track your movements |
| Device identification | Camera serial numbers can link anonymous photos back to you |
| Editing exposure | XMP history shows every edit step, including crops and filters you applied |
| AI provenance | C2PA marks reveal which AI generator and model you used |
Even if you crop or edit a photo, the original thumbnail embedded in EXIF data may still show the uncropped version.
Supported File Types
- JPEG — all EXIF, GPS, XMP, IPTC, C2PA segments
- PNG — eXIf chunks, iTXt XMP, caBX C2PA
- WebP — RIFF container EXIF and XMP
- HEIC / AVIF — metadata viewing supported; removal limited to JPEG, PNG, WebP
Your Privacy Is Guaranteed
This tool processes everything locally in your browser:
- No uploads — your files never leave your device
- No servers — all processing uses your browser's own JavaScript engine
- No tracking — we can't see what files you process
- No accounts — just open and use, nothing to sign up for
A privacy tool that uploads your files would defeat its own purpose. That's why this runs entirely in your browser.
Pro Tip: Metadata Survives Social Media
Social media platforms strip some metadata when you post — but email, messaging apps, and direct file sharing preserve it all. If you send a photo via email, WhatsApp, or AirDrop, the recipient gets the full EXIF data including GPS coordinates.
Always clean your photos before sharing them directly.

- XMP packets — Adobe metadata and editing history
- IPTC fields — captions, keywords, copyright
- C2PA Content Credentials — AI provenance manifests
- Embedded thumbnails
Preserved
- The visible image pixels — quality is untouched
- Image dimensions, color profile and orientation
- File format (JPEG, PNG, WebP)
- Your original file — only a cleaned copy is downloaded
